
Bulandshahr, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : A police encounter in Bulandshahr’s Gulawathi area resulted in the arrest of five animal smugglers, including their leader, Shehzad, also known as Bhura. The incident occurred late Saturday night when police and SWAT teams were conducting checks on the highway. They spotted a suspicious vehicle that failed to stop when signaled, prompting a chase.
During the pursuit, the suspects fired at the police, leading to a shootout. Shehzad and his accomplice, Shahrukh, were injured in the exchange. The police apprehended them along with three other suspects, recovering two firearms, three knives, ammunition, a vehicle, two stolen buffaloes, and ₹95,000 in cash.
According to Circle Officer Prakhar Pandey, the injured suspects were taken into custody, and the police are investigating their involvement in other animal thefts. The arrested individuals include Shehzad, a resident of Mundali, Meerut; Shahrukh Mevati from Naurangabad, Haryana; Faisal from Chaudharybada, Sikandrabad; Sharif from Sikandrabad; and Rizwan from Jaleelpur, Jahangirabad.
Shehzad has a long criminal history, reportedly involved in illegal activities since 2012, with 32 cases filed against him across various police stations in western Uttar Pradesh. Shahrukh has eight cases, Faisal seven, Sharif nineteen, and Rizwan seven.
The operation involved key police figures, including Gulawathi police station in-charge Dharmendra Sharma and SWAT team leader Mohammad Aslam. Authorities are currently questioning the suspects to gather more information on other animal theft incidents in the region.
