A member of an illegal arms smuggling gang was arrested in Gorakhpur, with two pistols and ammunition recovered by the STF.

Gorakhpur, October 31 (Daily Kiran) : The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has achieved a significant breakthrough by apprehending a member of an interstate illegal arms smuggling gang in Gorakhpur. The suspect was arrested near the Kauwabagh underpass in the Cantt police station area, where officers seized two illegal pistols, two magazines, and a cartridge from him.
The arrested individual has been identified as Bittu Indori, also known as Devendra Saxena, hailing from Indore in Madhya Pradesh. According to the STF, Saxena has been involved in arms trafficking for an extended period and has prior criminal cases against him.
During the operation, authorities recovered two .32 caliber pistols and a .32 caliber cartridge. The arrest took place around 7:15 PM on Saturday evening.
Investigations revealed that the gang operated from Sendhwa in Madhya Pradesh’s Barwani district and Sonipat in Haryana. Members of the gang were active in the eastern Uttar Pradesh districts of Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Deoria, and Maharajganj. They supplied illegal pistols to local residents, making profits of 20,000 to 30,000 rupees per weapon.
Earlier, on September 14-15, 2026, five members of the gang were arrested with five pistols, and another member was caught with two pistols on October 5, 2026.
During questioning, Saxena disclosed that he previously worked as a driver. After being involved in a fatal road accident, he was jailed, where he met Shreyansh Yadav, another accused in arms trafficking. This encounter led him into the illegal arms trade.
Saxena admitted to purchasing illegal weapons from local artisans for 15,000 to 30,000 rupees and selling them for 35,000 to 40,000 rupees. He charged an additional 10,000 rupees for transporting the arms to Gorakhpur.
He acknowledged being active in the illegal arms smuggling business for the past four to five years. Following recent arrests of other gang members, their network in eastern Uttar Pradesh had weakened. Saxena had traveled to Gorakhpur with two pistols at the request of Randhir Yadav when he was apprehended by the STF.
The STF also noted that Saxena has a case registered against him under the Arms Act and other charges at the DN Nagar police station in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Dharmesh Kumar Shahi and Inspector Satyaprakash Singh, with assistance from the Cantt police.
The arrested suspect has been booked at the Cantt police station, and authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover other members and connections of the gang.
