Varanasi, March 4 : Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of telling lies and not doing enough to rescue Indian students stranded in Ukraine. Addressing an election rally here, Rahul Gandhi used the Hindu plank to hit back at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its leader, Modi. “Hinduism means truth. These people take votes not in the name of Hindu religion but in the name of lies. Nowhere in our religion is it written that you should tell lies to lakhs and crores of people,” the Congress leader said. “I have read Ramayana and Mahabharata. I have not read anywhere that you should tell lies by coming to Shiva’s abode in Kashi. No religion says you should lie. Here vote is not being taken only on religion, here vote is being taken on lies. “I will die but I will never tell you from this stage that I will put Rs 15 lakhs in your bank account,” he said, referring to an election promise Modi repeatedly made in the 2014 general election of giving every Indian Rs 15 lakhs from black money which would be brought home. At the meeting in Pindra here, Rahul Gandhi urged the voters in Uttar Pradesh to show the BJP the doors and install a Congress government. Before holding the meeting, Rahul Gandhi, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel prayed at the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi. He said the Prime Minister used to talk earlier repeatedly about providing employment and doubling the income of farmers. “Why Modiji does not talk of two crore jobs now? Why not talk about increasing the income of farmers? What is that he no longer talks about employment, farmers, black money? “Modiji comes, tells lies, and says he protects Hinduism. No Modiji, you protect lies, not religion. You protect untruth to save your chair.” Rahul Gandhi said a Congress government in Uttar Pradesh would follow the Chhattisgarh model where he said that farmers were paid well for their produce and there was no problem of stray cattle. “Watch their drama. War started in Ukraine, thousands of our people are stuck in Ukraine between life and death. Bombs are falling there. They (students) make a video and say save us. Here Modi’s people say they failed here, so they went there… Are they not Indian citizens? Is it not your responsibility to protect them?” He said there was only one Prime Minister in the world who told his people during Covid-19 to beat utensils to frighten away the pandemic. MB MR BAV
