Hyderabad, May 10: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a large gathering in Hyderabad on Sunday. He called on citizens to act responsibly amid global economic uncertainties.
He highlighted that the world is currently facing economic turmoil, supply chain disruptions, and international conflicts, which are contributing to rising inflation. In such challenging times, collective participation is crucial to keeping India strong.
Modi broadened the definition of patriotism, stating that it goes beyond sacrificing for the country. Living a disciplined and responsible life during tough times is equally important.
He urged citizens to modify their daily habits to strengthen the economy. Specifically, he advised avoiding unnecessary gold purchases for a year to prevent unnecessary outflow of foreign currency. He also emphasized the need for cautious use of petrol and diesel, stating that saving fuel will bolster the country’s economic condition.
The Prime Minister provided several suggestions to reduce fuel consumption. He encouraged the use of metro and public transport wherever possible and recommended carpooling when using personal vehicles. For freight transport, he advocated prioritizing rail transport and promoting the use of electric vehicles.
Modi suggested reinstating efficient measures adopted during the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted that work-from-home arrangements, online conferences, and virtual meetings not only save time and resources but also reduce fuel consumption.
He appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary foreign travel, vacations abroad, and attending events overseas. Instead, he encouraged prioritizing domestic tourism and celebrations to boost the local economy. Modi urged people to choose local and ‘Made in India’ products for everyday items like shoes, bags, and other goods. This, he said, would not only create jobs in the country but also reduce dependence on foreign imports. He also advised reducing the consumption of cooking oil, which would benefit both the economy and public health.
The Prime Minister called on farmers to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers by 50% and adopt natural farming practices. He stated that this would improve soil health and decrease import reliance. Additionally, he urged the adoption of solar-powered irrigation pumps in agriculture instead of diesel pumps. He emphasized that these efforts would not only help the country tackle current global challenges but also accelerate its journey towards self-reliance. Modi concluded by stressing that even small initiatives by every citizen can empower the nation significantly.
