Mumbai, September 23 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the eighth anniversary of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, emphasizing its significant impact on healthcare access for over 600 million people in India. Launched with the vision of providing affordable healthcare to every Indian, the scheme offers health coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per year.
In a post on social media platform X, Modi extended his best wishes to all beneficiaries. He stated, “Eight years ago, Ayushman Bharat was initiated with the thought that every Indian should have access to excellent and affordable healthcare.”
The scheme has enabled record savings on treatment costs, benefiting both the poor and the middle class. Healthcare is becoming increasingly accessible, with over 500 million visits recorded at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, strengthening primary healthcare at the grassroots level.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda remarked that Prime Minister Modi’s commitment to “Seva ka Sankalp” has transformed healthcare access for millions. He noted that Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, the world’s largest health insurance scheme, now covers over half a billion people across the nation.
With more than 48.54 crore Ayushman cards issued and over 13 crore individuals benefiting from treatments, the scheme is turning the promise of quality healthcare and financial security into reality for families throughout India.
The program has facilitated over ₹2 lakh crore in hospitalizations and treatments through a network of over 39,000 registered public and private hospitals. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted that the Ayushman Bharat scheme, initiated under Modi’s leadership, has made quality healthcare more accessible for millions of families. It alleviates the financial burden of medical expenses for the poor and needy, fostering healthier and safer lives.
