Guwahati, May 14: Congress leader Pawan Khera addressed journalists regarding the ongoing interrogation by Assam police. He stated, “I will not discuss this matter publicly. I am continuously answering the questions being asked. I will respond to as many inquiries as they pose.”
Khera emphasized that he has answered all questions posed to him during the investigation. He mentioned that he has been summoned again on the 25th and will return, asserting that every responsible citizen should cooperate with the investigation.
Previously, Assam police had interrogated Khera for over 11 hours at the Guwahati Crime Branch office. This questioning was related to a case filed by Rinki Bhuyan Sarma, the wife of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
After the lengthy interrogation, Khera emerged from the Crime Branch office and told the media, “I am cooperating with the police. I am a law-abiding citizen and will continue to assist in the investigation.”
Earlier, the Supreme Court granted Khera anticipatory bail in this matter, instructing him to cooperate with the investigation while providing relief from arrest. Speaking to the media outside the Crime Branch office, Khera expressed his trust in the judiciary and his commitment to following the law.
The complaint alleges that Khera publicly claimed that Rinki Bhuyan Sarma possesses multiple foreign passports and has financial interests abroad.
The FIR includes several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), addressing false statements in election-related matters, fraud, forgery of valuable documents, falsification of public records, use of forged documents, intentional insult, and defamation.
