Colombo, February 11: In a thrilling encounter at the T20 World Cup 2026, Pakistan faced off against the USA in Colombo on Tuesday. Pakistan emerged victorious, winning by 32 runs, thanks in large part to their spin bowlers. Remarkably, 80% of the deliveries bowled during the match were from spin bowlers.
As the USA began their innings, expectations were high that Pakistan’s captain, Salman Ali Agha, would utilize his fast bowlers. However, apart from Shaheen Afridi, Agha opted to rely solely on spin. Shaheen bowled 4 overs, while the remaining 16 overs were bowled by spin bowlers, leading to a successful outcome for Pakistan.
The spin attack featured Saeem Ayub with 1 wicket, Abrar Ahmed with 4, Mohammad Nawaz with 3, Shadab Khan with 4, and Usman Tariq also contributing 4 overs. Notably, Faheem Ashraf, a fast bowler, was part of the team but did not bowl during the match.
Usman Tariq took 3 wickets, Shadab Khan claimed 2, and both Abrar and Nawaz took 1 wicket each, securing the win for Pakistan against the USA.
This match marked the second instance in T20 history where Pakistan bowled the most overs (16) by spin bowlers. The previous record was set in 2012 in Colombo against Australia, where 18 out of 20 overs were bowled by spinners.
In addition, Pakistan’s spin bowlers had previously bowled 15 overs against South Africa in 2012, West Indies in 2013, England in 2021, and Afghanistan in 2023, all in various locations.
In the match against the USA, after losing the toss, Pakistan batted first and scored 190 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. The USA managed to score 158 runs for 8 wickets in their 20 overs, resulting in a 32-run defeat.
