Colombo, February 28: An exhilarating match unfolded on Friday at the R. Premadasa Stadium, where England faced New Zealand in the T20 World Cup Super 8 stage. England’s victory by four wickets was crucial for keeping Pakistan’s hopes of reaching the semifinals alive. This win provided Pakistan with another opportunity to secure a spot in the semifinals.

A standout performance came from Rehan Ahmed, a player of Pakistani descent, who played a pivotal role in England’s success. Coming in to bat at number eight, England needed 43 runs off 19 balls to clinch the match against New Zealand. Will Jacks was already at the crease, known for his solid batting. However, Rehan exceeded expectations by aggressively attacking the opposition bowlers right from the start.

In just seven balls, Rehan scored an unbeaten 19 runs, including two sixes and one four, leading England to victory with three balls to spare. This triumph delighted not only England but also the Pakistan cricket team and its millions of fans. Rehan also excelled with the ball, taking two wickets for 28 runs in three overs.

Rehan Ahmed, born in England to Pakistani parents, effectively accomplished what the Pakistan cricket team needed to secure their semifinal aspirations. At just 21 years old, Rehan made his debut for Pakistan in 2022 and has played across all formats, including five Tests, nine ODIs, and thirteen T20s. His father, Naeem Ahmed, originally from Mirpur, Pakistan, was also a cricketer who moved to England in 2001 for a better life, starting as a taxi driver.
