Pakistan Targets Residential Areas in Afghanistan, Claims Taliban

Kabul, May 4: The Taliban administration reported that three people were killed and 14 others injured due to attacks by the Pakistani military in Afghanistan’s Kunar province.

According to a Taliban district official, these attacks in the Dangam district destroyed two schools, a clinic, and two mosques. The exact timing of the assaults has not been disclosed. Afghanistan International reported on the situation.

Mohammad Omar Sadiq, the Taliban district governor of Dangam, accused the Pakistani military of being unable to conduct direct attacks and instead targeting civilian structures. He noted that the assaults resulted in the deaths of 80 livestock, and 12 schools have been destroyed in Kunar province to date.

Earlier, on April 28, the Afghan Foreign Ministry summoned the chargé d’affaires at the Pakistani embassy in Kabul to lodge a protest against these attacks. Afghanistan accused Pakistan of targeting public infrastructure near the Durand Line and a university located in central Kunar.

The Foreign Ministry condemned these attacks as violations of Afghanistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It stated that such actions are against international principles and provocative in nature.

Afghanistan has urged Pakistan to refrain from such activities, warning that it reserves the right to defend its country and citizens. It also mentioned that these “irresponsible actions” could have serious consequences.

Last week, attacks in the Asadabad and Sarkano districts of Kunar province resulted in seven deaths and 75 injuries. According to Khama Press, residential areas and the Syed Jamaluddin Afghan University were also targeted, injuring several students and staff.

Tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan have been escalating in recent months, with both countries accusing each other of spreading instability.
