Nishin, September 28 (Daily Kiran) : Pakistan’s cricket team has advanced to the semifinals of the Asian Games 2026 without stepping onto the field. Their quarterfinal match against Hong Kong was called off due to persistent rain.
The weather conditions were so severe that the umpires could not even conduct the toss. As a result, the match was ultimately declared a no-contest. Pakistan, ranked sixth in the ICC T20 standings, benefited from their higher ranking compared to Hong Kong, which is ranked 24th. Consequently, they secured a direct spot in the semifinals and will play on October 1.
In the other quarterfinal match scheduled for Monday, India is set to face Afghanistan at the same venue. However, forecasts indicate a high likelihood of rain. According to AccuWeather, there is a 69% chance of rain at 8 AM local time, which increases to 70% by 9 AM, just when the first quarterfinal is scheduled to start. The chances remain elevated throughout the morning, with predictions of 49% at 10 AM, 75% at 11 AM, and 71% at noon.
For the India-Afghanistan match, the probability of rain at the scheduled toss time of 1 PM is 40%. This decreases slightly to 34% by 2 PM, but rises again to 40% by 3 PM. By 4 PM, the likelihood of rain is projected to be 58%, with chances of 49% at 5 PM, 60% at 6 PM, and back to 49% by 7 PM.
Should rain force the cancellation of the match, India would be declared the winner due to their superior ranking. India currently holds the top spot in the ICC T20 rankings, while Afghanistan is in tenth place.
