Lucknow, May 15: Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has criticized opposition parties for misleading the public regarding rising petrol and diesel prices and the recent saffron shawl controversy in Karnataka. He stated that the opposition is only attempting to confuse the public without any real impact.
Speaking to reporters in Lucknow, Maurya emphasized that despite the global economic crisis, the central government has been making continuous efforts to provide relief to the citizens. He noted that nearly 80% of countries worldwide have seen significant increases in fuel prices, yet the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reduced excise duties to lessen the burden on the common people.
Maurya acknowledged that it is now impossible to completely halt price increases. He argued that failing to take action could adversely affect the country’s economic situation and put severe pressure on the government’s finances. He claimed that the public understands these challenges and is aware of the government’s constraints.
In response to criticism from Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav regarding fuel prices, Maurya remarked that Yadav is dreaming “unrealistic dreams like Mungeerilal.” He accused the opposition of trying to mislead the public for political gain. He added that the public has ousted opposition parties from power, yet they still refuse to acknowledge the progress made under Modi’s leadership.
Maurya also targeted senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other opposition figures, asserting that they do not want to see a strong and self-reliant India. He criticized their habit of opposing the government on every issue.
Notably, Akhilesh Yadav has also criticized the government over inflation, stating on social media, “If we want to move forward, the bicycle is the only option.” His comments have sparked considerable discussion among the public, as he accused the central government of exacerbating inflation.
Additionally, addressing the saffron shawl controversy in Karnataka, Maurya accused Congress of engaging in “anti-saffron politics.” He emphasized that the saffron color symbolizes Indian culture and tradition, stating that opposing it is akin to opposing Indian values and sentiments. He concluded that Congress is undermining its own political standing through such tactics.
