Jamshedpur, September 27 (Daily Kiran) : A shooting incident at the Udupi Restaurant in Binda Mall, Jamshedpur, has raised serious concerns about law and order in Jharkhand. Four individuals were injured in the brazen daytime attack, prompting opposition leader Baboolal Marandi to criticize the state government.
Marandi directed his ire at the government, stating that when police leadership is based on political loyalty and favoritism rather than merit, fear will reign on the streets instead of law. He emphasized that the shooting incident is alarming and reflects a growing trend of crime and fear that is no longer confined to Dhanbad but is spreading to other cities.
The opposition leader questioned the appointments of police officials, alleging that positions of importance within the state police are filled based on political connections rather than qualifications. He argued that this undermines the efficiency of law enforcement and diminishes the fear of law among criminals.
Marandi also called on Chief Minister Hemant Soren to explain the centralization of responsibilities among officials under the guise of additional charges. He insisted that the government must clarify the criteria for assigning extra responsibilities and why key positions remain vacant.
Furthermore, Marandi demanded a fair investigation into complaints against police officers, alleging that issues such as coal smuggling and illegal extortion are ignored despite numerous reports. He stated that serious complaints against any officer should lead to independent inquiries, with appropriate actions taken against those found guilty.
He concluded by asserting that merely sending officials to crime scenes after incidents does not equate to maintaining law and order. Arresting criminals and identifying those who protect them is crucial. Marandi reiterated that the police’s primary duty is to ensure public safety, not to safeguard the interests of any political faction or elite group.
