Opposition Coalition Marches in Patna Against Special Intensive Review Process

In Patna, opposition leaders march against the Special Intensive Review process and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, demanding accountability.

Patna, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : In Patna, on October 8, leaders of the opposition coalition staged a march to protest the Special Intensive Review (SIR) process and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The rally, led by Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the opposition in the Bihar Assembly, included members from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), and several leftist parties.

The march commenced from the Martyrs’ Memorial and was headed towards Lok Bhawan and Sapta Murti. Demonstrators voiced their concerns regarding the SIR process and called for the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar. They allege that the SIR has adversely affected the names of numerous eligible voters on the electoral rolls, raising serious questions about the Election Commission’s operations.

As the march progressed, police implemented multiple layers of barricading to halt the protesters. Tejashwi Yadav, along with VIP leader Mukesh Sahni and other activists, pushed forward despite the police presence. They managed to breach two barricades before being stopped at a third. During this confrontation, Yadav climbed over a barricade, leading to his eventual detention along with other leaders in a police vehicle.

Authorities stated that the coalition was granted permission to visit the Raj Bhavan, where they plan to present their concerns to the Governor regarding the SIR, the voter list, and the functioning of the Election Commission. Earlier, on Wednesday, similar protests were held across various blocks in Bihar, prompting extensive security measures in Patna. The coalition has vowed to continue their movement on these pressing issues.
