NHCX Innovation Meet: Top Teams Honored at Hackathon Focused on FHIR-Based Claim Solutions

Hyderabad, March 7: The National Health Authority (NHA) has announced the winners of the NHCX Hackathon, aimed at promoting innovations linked to the National Health Claim Exchange (NHCX) under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).

The two-day NHCX Innovation Meet, held at IIT Hyderabad on March 6-7, 2026, showcased the final presentations from teams that reached the last round of the hackathon. This event also symbolically concluded the grand finale of the hackathon, which took place from February 22 to 28, 2026.

The NHCX Hackathon aimed to bring revolutionary changes to India’s health insurance claims ecosystem. A total of 112 entries were received, focusing on large-scale, implementable digital solutions to streamline, simplify, and fully digitize the health insurance claims process.

Under the Build Track, solutions included an NHCX-aligned FHIR converter for legacy systems (covering eligibility checks, claim submissions, pre-authorization, and communication workflows), a clinical documents to FHIR structured data converter (for diagnostic reports and discharge summaries), and open-source utilities for bundling insurance plans aligned with NHCX from PDFs. The Ideathon Track utilized NHCX capabilities to create business use cases, such as identifying misuse and optimizing time and costs in claims processing.

An independent expert jury, comprising representatives from IIT Hyderabad, NRCES, GIC, Google, IIA, NatHealth, and NHA, evaluated the entries. The top three teams were selected for each problem statement across various tracks. Participants included health-tech startups, insurtech companies, insurance firms, TPAs, PM-JAY hospitals, HMIS vendors, educational institutions, developers, students, and technology innovators.

NHCX is one of three gateways of ABDM, providing an integrated digital infrastructure for seamless exchange of claim-related information between hospitals, insurance companies, and patients. The hackathon was conducted in collaboration with various partners, including IRDAI, IIT Hyderabad, NRCES, GIC, Google, IIB, NABH, IIA, and NatHealth.

During the Innovation Meet, three key partnerships were launched: NHCX Champions (organizations successfully implementing NHCX), ABDM Ambassadors (awareness promoters), and NHCX-PM-JAY Early Integrators (connecting PM-JAY claims to NHCX). The first group of these partnerships was announced and honored.

The event was inaugurated by NHA CEO Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal, Andhra Pradesh Health Secretary Saurabh Gaur, AHPHI Director General Dr. Girdhar Gyani, and IIT Hyderabad Dean Prof. G. Narhari Shastri. Among the chief guests was IRDAI Chairman Ajay Seth.
