New Underbridge Inaugurated in Chandigarh to Ease Traffic for Nearly 1 Million Vehicles Daily

Chandigarh, May 20: Union Minister of State for Railways, Ravneet Singh Bittu, inaugurated a new underbridge on Wednesday to enhance public convenience. Speaking to the media, he emphasized that this project will significantly relieve the daily commuters.

Bittu stated, “Many projects are evaluated solely based on their financial aspects. While large projects can cost hundreds of crores, this underbridge is not just a financial endeavor; it was a critical necessity. The Governor played an integral role by collaborating closely with the railway authorities. I also want to commend the Chandigarh administration. Since some land was located in Chandigarh and the Governor serves as both the Governor of Punjab and the Administrator of Chandigarh UT, the land acquisition process was expedited, benefiting us greatly.”

He further explained, “According to railway traffic measurements, approximately 933,799 vehicles pass through this area daily. The double line allows a high volume of traffic. You can imagine the scale of the problem we faced. We have constructed several underbridges and bridges, but projects often stall for years due to land issues, especially over roads. This project is estimated at around 12 crores, which is manageable, allowing for swift completion.”

Bittu added, “Every day, 50 trains travel in each direction, totaling over 100 trains. The crossing gates were frequently closed, causing significant delays. Now, residents will experience considerable relief. The success of this project is largely due to the efforts of the Governor and the railway authorities. I extend my congratulations to the public through your platform. Since this location is on my daily route, I will closely monitor this project. If other projects take a year, I assure you that this one will be completed in nine months.”
