Farrukhabad, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : The chief priest of Neem Karoli Dham, Shri Shri Tyagi Maharaj, recently emphasized the importance of this site as the spiritual center of Baba Neem Karoli. He noted that the Baba attained his spiritual powers between 1912 and 1935 through intense meditation at this very location. The temple features a self-made idol of Hanuman, crafted from cow dung and clay, which continues to be worshipped here.
The Maharaj also discussed a film titled “Hanuman Ansh,” saying it reflects the divine play of Baba, who often chooses unexpected individuals for service. He remarked, “God’s work is mysterious; you never know who will receive blessings.”
Tyagi Maharaj shared that Baba’s original name was Lakshman Das, which is also the name of the nearby Neem Karoli station, located just five minutes from the ashram. Baba arrived in this village in 1912, where he achieved his spiritual realization.
He described the unique Hanuman idol that Baba created, which is still present today. The idol is adorned on Saturdays and Tuesdays with special garments. Unlike other places that feature stone idols, this one was crafted by Baba’s own hands. The government is working to enhance the pilgrimage circuit, having officially designated the site as a tourist and religious destination.
Significant developments have occurred since 2014, particularly between 2015 and 2017. The ashram has expanded to include a large hall, a kitchen, and two additional rooms, made possible by its new status as a pilgrimage site. The Chief Minister has taken a keen interest in these improvements, which aim to further enhance the already significant site.
While discussing the nearby Kainchi Dham, Tyagi Maharaj noted its cooler climate attracts more foreign tourists, making it more prominent. However, he insisted that the original and primary site of Baba’s spiritual journey remains Neem Karoli village in Farrukhabad, where he received all his powers.
