NATO Secy General expresses serious concerns over Turkey’s operation in Northern Syria

In Syria, casualties are increasing as Turkey presses on with its cross-border offensive on Kurdish-held areas of northern Syria.

Turkey’s Defence Ministry claimed, in a statement, that Turkish forces have killed at least 342 Kurdish fighters. Meanwhile, the numbers could not be independently verified. BBC reported, at least 11 civilians have died.

Turkey today said that one of its soldiers was killed in northern Syria, the first fatality in its offensive against a Kurdish militia. Turkish Defence Ministry said that three more soldiers were injured in the region. Tens of thousands of people have fled their homes, amid growing international criticism of the offensive.

On the other hand, five European members of the United Nations Security Council demanded Turkey to halt its offensive against Syrian Kurdish forces. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also expressed serious concerns today about Turkey’s ongoing operation.
