Pune, April 17: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to TCS Nashik and the Maharashtra police regarding allegations of sexual harassment and forced religious conversion involving female employees. This development has sparked strong reactions from several political figures, including BJP leader Navneet Rana and Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Priyank Kanungo, a member of the NHRC, stated that they received a complaint from an organization concerning the TCS Nashik office. The complaint alleges that female employees faced harassment, sexual exploitation, and were coerced into converting their religion through blackmail.
Kanungo further explained that these incidents reportedly occurred within the office premises and with the consent of senior management. The Nashik police have initiated action, and the NHRC has requested information from TCS regarding women’s safety across all its offices in the country. They have also sought details from other companies under the TCS umbrella.
Additionally, the NHRC has issued a notice to the Maharashtra police, inquiring whether only employees have been implicated or if the institution’s leadership is also being held accountable.
In response to the allegations, BJP leader Navneet Rana expressed outrage, insisting that those involved in such activities should face severe punishment. He emphasized that young women entering the corporate world to support their families should not have to contend with predatory bosses.
Rana described the perpetrators as “monsters” who would impose unwanted dietary restrictions and cultural practices on their victims without their consent. He argued that such offenders should face immediate and harsh consequences.
Amruta Fadnavis also weighed in on the issue, calling it a serious matter that requires stringent action. She noted that every company has a committee to address such issues and that the police are taking action. Fadnavis emphasized the importance of cultural pride and suggested that parents should educate their children about their cultural roots to prevent such incidents.
