Mumbai, May 5: The Mumbai Crime Branch has filed an application in a special NDPS court to obtain custody of Salim Dola, who is believed to be closely associated with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. Following the court’s approval for custody, the Crime Branch plans to interrogate Dola regarding various cases, including the Sangli drug case.
The Crime Branch’s request for custody will be granted only after the NDPS court’s permission and the conclusion of Dola’s custody with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). Currently, Salim Dola is in NCB custody until May 8, where he is being questioned about drug-related matters.
In its application, the Crime Branch has requested the court to issue a production warrant so that Dola can be taken into their custody after the NCB’s remand ends. As per legal procedures, the Crime Branch must first explain to the court why Dola’s custody is essential. If the court deems further questioning necessary, it will issue a production warrant, allowing the relevant agency to take the accused into custody.
The Crime Branch intends to take Dola into custody for several cases, starting with the Sangli drug case, followed by the Mysore drug case and the Telangana drug case.
According to the Mumbai Crime Branch, Salim Dola has been a significant part of several large drug networks. Investigations have revealed his suspicious role in drug factory cases that emerged in Sangli, Mysore, and Telangana. Additionally, he was implicated in a case involving the seizure of 4 kilograms of MD drugs in 2024.
The Crime Branch believes that questioning Dola could lead to the exposure of a major drug trafficking syndicate. The final decision in this matter rests with the NDPS court. Dola will be handed over to the Mumbai Crime Branch only after receiving the court’s approval.
