MP curfew: Senior officers visit town

Khargone (MP), Apr 19 : A near-total bandh was observed for the second successive day on Tuesday at this curfew-bound district headquarters in response to a clarion call by Hindu organisations even as Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Rajesh Kumar Rajora and Addl DGP VK Maheshwari took stock of the violence-affected areas, in person. Following an assurance by officials – including IPS officer Ankit Jaiswal who has been specially deputed here – that uncompromising action shall be continued against rioters, it has been decided that commercial outlets will be opened from Wednesday. Curfew was relaxed from 0800-1200 hrs and then from 1500-1700 hrs on this day. However, only medicine shops opened. “Dr Rajora and Mr Maheshwari had discussions with residents of Talab Chowk, Sanjay Nagar, Bhatwadi, etc and sought details regarding livelihood. Later, both officers had separate meetings at the Collectorate with members of both comm ties, lent a patient ear to various proposals and appealed for peace. They issued a directive for rapid disbursal of Rs 1 crore sanctioned by the government for the victims,” Collector Anugraha P said. On observing a ‘House for sale’ sign in Sanjay Nagar, Dr Rajora appealed to owner Pappu Muchhal to continue living here. The local agreed to do so on the condition that he is provided monetary assistance and a secure atmosphere. XC-AC
