Kolkata, May 7: Hasi Rani Rath, the mother of Chandranath Rath, who served as a personal assistant to Suvendu Adhikari for several years, has made serious allegations regarding her son’s tragic death. She claims that his murder was a consequence of his significant role in Adhikari’s victory against former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the recent assembly elections for the Bhawanipur constituency.
According to Hasi Rani Rath, inflammatory and retaliatory statements made by Trinamool Congress leaders during pre-election rallies were major factors leading to her son’s untimely demise. Chandranath was shot dead on Wednesday night in Madhyagram, located in the North 24 Parganas district.
In addition to being Suvendu Adhikari’s personal assistant, Chandranath Rath was a key member of the core team managing Adhikari’s electoral campaign in Bhawanipur.
Speaking to the media on Thursday afternoon, Rath’s mother stated, “My son was in charge of the election campaigns in Bhawanipur and Nandigram, where Suvendu Adhikari contested and won. Perhaps this is why my son became a target, especially after Mamata Banerjee’s defeat in Bhawanipur.”
Despite the BJP’s significant victory in the recent West Bengal assembly elections, Rath pointed out that party leaders have consistently urged their workers to exercise restraint and avoid taking the law into their own hands. In contrast, TMC leaders had repeatedly threatened severe consequences during their pre-election rallies.
She continued, “They did the same to my son. I appeal to the new state government to ensure that my son’s murderers receive strict punishment.”
However, she did not demand the death penalty for the perpetrators. “I want the guilty to be punished. As a mother, I wouldn’t want the death penalty for them, but they should receive life imprisonment. I urge the incoming government to ensure that the guilty face severe consequences.”
