Modi and Trump Discuss Hopes for Israel-Lebanon Ceasefire in Phone Call

Washington, April 17: U.S. President Donald Trump spoke with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the phone. Trump reported that their conversation was productive, with Modi expressing optimism regarding efforts for a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.

President Trump described the discussion as very positive, stating, “I had a great talk with him. He is doing very well.” The conversation highlighted the potential for diplomatic progress in the region.

Additionally, Trump indicated that he might visit Pakistan if a ceasefire deal with Iran is finalized. This would mark the first visit by a U.S. president to Pakistan in several years, as security concerns have kept previous administrations from making the trip. In a conversation with White House reporters, Trump said, “I will go to Pakistan. If a deal is signed in Islamabad, I might go. They want me there. Pakistan has been very good.”

This statement comes as the U.S. is advancing various diplomatic initiatives in the Middle East, including negotiations with Iran and efforts to halt hostilities along the Israel-Lebanon border.

Trump mentioned that a ceasefire arrangement between Israel and Lebanon is taking shape, potentially involving Hezbollah. He noted, “They all agree. It’s a very good little package for about a week.”

He also revealed that he has spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese leadership, emphasizing the significance of these developments. Trump pointed to the possibility of direct engagement between Israel and Lebanon, stating, “We are going to have a meeting, the first in 44 years, and it could be at the White House.”

Regarding Hezbollah, Trump expressed hope for compliance with the ceasefire, aiming to reduce violence. “We won’t drop many bombs; we will see if we can establish peace between Lebanon and Israel,” he said.

When asked about the timing, Trump suggested that the meeting could occur in the next week or two. He added that Lebanon would play a role in addressing Hezbollah. The president also hinted at a potential visit to the region if negotiations progress, stating, “I will definitely go there at the right time.”
