Oslo, May 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting on Tuesday with Iceland’s Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir in Oslo. The meeting included key officials such as External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
Currently, Prime Minister Modi is on a two-day visit to Norway.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that this summit continues the momentum from previous meetings held in Stockholm in April 2018 and Copenhagen in May 2022, aiming to further strengthen India-Nordic relations. The focus will be on technology, innovation, green transition, renewable energy, sustainability, blue economy, defense, space, and Arctic issues.
On Monday, Prime Minister Modi participated in the India-Norway Business and Research Summit in Oslo, where he discussed the growing collaboration between India and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) following their trade and economic partnership agreement.
The event saw participation from over 50 CEOs and more than 250 representatives from the business and research sectors of both India and Norway. Several agreements were signed between Indian and Norwegian companies during this time.
Prime Minister Modi arrived in Norway as part of the fourth phase of his five-nation tour. Notably, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre personally welcomed him at the airport. The event was also attended by Norway’s Ambassador to India, Me-Ailin Stener, and India’s Ambassador to Norway, Gloria Gangte, along with several senior officials.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi also met King Harald V at the Royal Palace in Oslo. The two leaders discussed the increasing collaboration between Indian and Norwegian companies, particularly in the field of new technologies.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) noted that Modi appreciated Norway’s natural beauty and emphasized that the longstanding friendship between India and Norway is continuously strengthened by shared values, democracy, the rule of law, and people-centered governance.
