Moderate Rain Forecasted Across 17 Districts in Tamil Nadu

Chennai, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : Heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds, has swept through several districts in Tamil Nadu, offering a welcome respite from the heat. Notable areas affected include Perambalur, Vellore, Virudhunagar, and Dindigul.

The Regional Meteorological Centre has predicted moderate rain across 17 districts for Sunday. Areas around Perambalur, such as Arumadal, Kavalpalayam, Eriayur, Perali, and Thuraimangalam, experienced significant downpours. Similarly, parts of Tiruvannamalai district, including Arni town, Kannamangalam, Sandavasal, and Sevur, reported heavy rain. In Vellore district, rain was observed in the city of Vellore, as well as in Katpadi, Sathuvachari, Ponnai, Vallimalai, Latheri, and Gudiyatham.

In Peranambut, heavy rainfall resulted in flooding on the state highway connecting Tamil Nadu with Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Water accumulated over a half-kilometer stretch, resembling a large pond and causing difficulties for drivers. Virudhunagar district also faced heavy rain and strong winds in areas like Sivakasi and its surroundings, including Thiruthangal, Sachiyapuram, and Vilampatti. Dindigul district experienced similar conditions in Vathalakundu, Pattiveeranpatti, Old Vathalakundu, and Mallanampatti.

The evening rain in Kodaikanal brought down temperatures, creating pleasant weather for tourists. Moderate rainfall was recorded in Theni district in areas like Periyakulam, Allinagaram, and Aranmanai Pudhur. Nagapattinam and nearby regions, including Kilvelur, Devrur, Thirumarugal, Nagore, Sikkal, and Valivalam, also experienced heavy rain and strong winds.

Farmers preparing fields for Samba rice cultivation found relief in the rain. Nannilam and surrounding areas in Thiruvarur district also received rainfall. Residents in Mettupalayam and Kallar in Coimbatore district welcomed the sudden downpour after several hot days. Following an unusually warm spell, Udhagamandalam also recorded a significant drop in temperature.

The weather office indicated that moderate rain is likely on Sunday in the districts of Nilgiri, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Kanyakumari, Madurai, Sivagangai, Tiruchi, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Tiruvannamalai, and Vellore.

In Chennai and its suburbs, moderate rain could occur during the evening or night. Heavy rain is forecasted for Nilgiri on September 15 and 16, while Coimbatore may see heavy rainfall on the 16th.
