Chennai, August 10: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has forecasted moderate rainfall across several parts of Tamil Nadu leading up to Independence Day. Some areas may experience thunderstorms and strong winds.
According to the weather department, an atmospheric pressure system forming over the northern coastal regions of Tamil Nadu is expected to influence the weather across the state in the coming days.
On Monday, many districts may witness light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning. Strong surface winds are also anticipated, with gusts reaching speeds of up to 50 km/h during storms.
The weather department has advised the public to stay indoors during thunderstorms and high winds. This period of inclement weather is expected to persist throughout the week, bringing intermittent rain to various parts of the state.
Rainfall activity is likely to be more pronounced in the Western Ghats and northern coastal districts on August 12 and 13. Forecasts suggest moderate rain in these areas, aided by moisture-laden winds and the current atmospheric conditions conducive to cloud formation.
Other parts of Tamil Nadu may also experience scattered rainfall, though the intensity and spread of the rain may vary. Despite the likelihood of rain, the interior regions of northern Tamil Nadu are expected to remain warm.
By August 13, maximum temperatures in these areas could rise by up to three degrees Celsius above normal. High daytime temperatures combined with humidity may create muggy conditions, especially during periods of reduced rainfall.
In Chennai, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy during the day, with favorable conditions for rain by evening or night. Light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning, is also possible in the city and surrounding areas.
The latest forecast indicates that intermittent rain will continue across Tamil Nadu until Independence Day on August 15. While there are no significant signs of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds could disrupt outdoor activities in some areas.
Weather conditions are expected to vary significantly across coastal, interior, and Western Ghats districts as atmospheric disturbances continue to affect the state.
