Dehradun, April 25: Authorities are taking strict action against the spread of misleading and false information regarding the Char Dham Yatra on social media. Following previous cases, another FIR was registered on Friday at the Sonprayag police station in Rudraprayag.
During social media monitoring, a video circulated via the Instagram handle ‘thecurlypoet’ came to attention. The video made unfounded claims about the arrangements at Kedarnath Dham. It falsely stated that an elderly pilgrim received no assistance from the administration despite health issues, and that VIP protocols were neglecting ordinary devotees.
In reality, on April 22, a pilgrim from Gujarat fell ill and was promptly taken to the primary health center in Kedarnath, where he was declared dead by doctors. Subsequently, the administration arranged for the body to be transported to Guptkashi via helicopter. The video distorted facts to mislead the public and tarnish the administration’s image, prompting legal action against the individual responsible.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against the operators of the relevant social media ID. Additionally, other suspicious videos and digital content are under investigation, with strict action to be taken soon.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has issued clear directives to ensure immediate, stringent, and effective action against any misleading information, rumors, or propaganda related to the Char Dham Yatra. Continuous monitoring of other suspicious videos and social media content is also underway to identify and address them.
The state government has made it clear that any tampering with the dignity of the Char Dham Yatra, the faith of the pilgrims, or the image of Uttarakhand is unacceptable. The process of taking action against those spreading misinformation will continue rigorously and with utmost vigilance.
