Kohima : In the early hours of Monday, the banned militant organization NSCN attacked the army in Nasa Basti of Nagaland Mon district on the occasion of Independence Day, injuring two soldiers in a fierce with the Assam Rifles.
Two jawans of 32nd Battalion of Assam Rifles have been seriously injured in the encounter. Both the jawans have been sent to Army Hospital in Jorhat, Assam by helicopter for treatment. The encounter took place around 2.30 am on Monday. Security agencies are conducting a search operation by cordoning off the entire area.
In fact, extremist organizations like NSCN, ULFA (Independent) etc. have announced a boycott of Independence Day. ULFA (SW) has called for Assam Bandh in Assam. In view of the Independence Day, very tight security arrangements have been made in the states of Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh etc.
Recently, NSCN and ULFA (SW) attacked three Assam Rifles camps in Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland in which a senior Army officer was injured. Since then, very tight security arrangements were made along the Myanmar border with India. Despite this, today again the militants have tried to register their presence by attacking the army.
It has always been the endeavor of the insurgents of the Northeast to mark their presence by blasting or attacking on the occasion of the national festival. Today’s incident is also being seen as a similar episode.
