New Delhi : President Draupadi Murmu on Monday paid homage to the immortal Jawans at the National War Memorial at India Gate. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was present on the occasion.

Army Chief General Manoj Pandey, Indian Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar, and Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal VR Choudhary were also present.

In his address to the nation on the eve of the 76th Independence Day, President Murmu hailed the country’s development journey during the last 75 years, describing Independence Day as a celebration of Indianness. Along with this, the period up to 2047, the centennial year of independence, has been termed Amritkal.

She said that after India got independence, the apprehensions being expressed about the success of democracy in the country were rejected and the roots of democracy deepened. She said that due to the policies of the government, the economic development of the country is becoming more inclusive and regional disparities are also being reduced.

During this, the President also mentioned the goals of the period up to the centennial year of independence in front of the countrymen. She said that the period of the next 25 years is Amrita Kaal for India. It is our resolve that in this period we will fully realise the dreams of the freedom fighters. In the centennial year, India will be a country that will have realised its potential.
