Security forces have shot dead a militant in the ongoing encounter in Srinagar, police said on Wednesday The gunfight erupted on the outskirts of Srinagar at Nowgam when security forces launched an anti militancy operation. “So far one terrorist has been killed in the operation,” a police officer said. Police said a militant of Laskhar-e-Toiba who was involved in the killing of a Sarpanch on the outskirts of Srinagar at Khanmoh was trapped in the encounter. “Terrorists of proscribed #terror outfit LeT/TRF involved in the recent #killing of Khanmoh’s Sarpanch Sameer Bhat, trapped in Nowgam encounter,” IGP Kashmir was quoted in a police tweet. This is the second gunfight in Kashmir since Tuesday. A Lashkar militant was killed in a gunfight at Awantipora in south Kashmir on Tuesday.
