Mayawati Urges Serious Discussion on Public Issues in Upcoming Legislative Session

Lucknow, August 3: The four-day monsoon session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly begins on Monday. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati expressed hope that the proceedings will focus on public welfare and issues of general interest.

She emphasized that this session should not devolve into narrow party politics, accusations, or chaos. Instead, it should serve as a platform for serious discussions on pressing state issues.

Mayawati took to social media platform X to announce the commencement of the monsoon session on August 3. Reports indicate that on August 4, the state government will present a supplementary budget concerning government expenditures in the assembly.

Despite the session being brief, she noted that the public expects it to be dedicated to national and public welfare issues, rather than succumbing to petty party politics, disputes, accusations, and disruptions like the current session of Parliament.

She acknowledged the public’s concern regarding the short duration of this session, stressing the importance of holding the bureaucracy accountable to the Constitution and ensuring it remains responsible for public welfare.

Mayawati questioned whether such a brief session could achieve its intended purpose or if it would merely be a formality. She asserted that strengthening the legislature is crucial for the integrity of the Constitution and democracy in the country. Both the government and opposition must engage in serious parliamentary conduct to ensure this.
