Ghaziabad, March 4: A terrifying incident unfolded in the Khera area of Ghaziabad on Tuesday night when a sudden and fierce fire broke out on the ground floor of a five-story residential building. The blaze spread rapidly, filling the entire structure with smoke within minutes, causing panic among the residents. This incident occurred near the Golden Palace, close to Birbal Chowki.
Initial reports indicate that the fire ignited near the stairs and electrical panel on the ground floor. Within moments, smoke reached the upper floors, trapping residents who were unable to escape down the stairs. Approximately 150 people were inside the building, caught in the thick smoke.
The Vaishali Fire Station received an emergency call at 11:47 PM. Chief Fire Officer Rahul Pal stated that as soon as the information was received, fire engines were dispatched from all nearby stations. A total of around ten fire trucks arrived at the scene. Upon arrival, they found flames raging in the stairwell and electrical panel, which had caused dense smoke to engulf the entire building.
Firefighters wasted no time and initiated a rescue operation. They extended ladders from the fire trucks to help evacuate residents. Many were safely brought out through windows and balconies, while efforts continued to control the flames in the stairwell.
Approximately 150 individuals were successfully rescued. However, 20 to 22 people suffered injuries due to smoke inhalation and were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention. The remaining residents received first aid at the scene.
Police and administrative officials also arrived to assess the situation and oversee the rescue efforts. After hours of hard work, the fire was completely extinguished. An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.
