Martin ONeill Responds to Danny Rohls Celtic Remarks Ahead of Glasgow Derby

Stuttgart, February 28: Martin O’Neill has responded to Danny Rohl after the Ibrox manager made comments regarding how Celtic should perform in Europe.

Following Celtic’s 1-0 Europa League victory against VfB Stuttgart, Rohl was questioned about Luke McCowan’s assertion that “no team in that league touches us.” During his pre-match media briefing, Rohl stated, “At the moment, we are in second position; they are behind us. They have seven or eight defeats. It makes no sense to speak too much about the other side; we must focus on ourselves.”

He added, “We want to win this game. I see my team is ready to take points, and I’m confident we have a big chance of winning.” Rohl expressed surprise that Celtic did not attempt to extend their lead after going 1-0 up, saying, “I was surprised they’re not trying to win this game, 2-0, 3-0.”

O’Neill, taken aback by Rohl’s comments, addressed the issue at his own media conference. “He said what? He felt we didn’t try to win the tie? He wants to be involved in some of these games! I never saw it like that,” O’Neill remarked. He acknowledged Stuttgart’s quality, noting, “They’re a very good team; they’re in the top four in the Bundesliga.”

When asked about McCowan’s remarks, O’Neill stated, “Luke’s entitled to his comments. Every game I’ve been involved in since I’ve come back has been difficult. What he probably meant was that we’re a fine side when we’re at our very best.”

As the Glasgow Derby approaches, both managers are gearing up for a highly competitive encounter.
