Imphal, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : In Imphal, the Home Minister of Manipur, Konthoujam Govindas Singh, has vowed to take stringent action following the murders of four individuals. This commitment was made on Monday after separate attacks in the Tamenglong and Noney districts. Singh emphasized that the state will not tolerate any disruption to peace and normalcy.
Expressing his deep sorrow over the deaths of innocent people, Singh condemned the killings and assured that legal measures would be enforced against those responsible. He expressed condolences to the victims’ families and instructed relevant authorities to gather facts, identify the culprits, and ensure that justice is served without fear or favoritism.
“There should be no doubt; those responsible for this violence will face the law and be held accountable,” Singh stated. He added that at this critical juncture, any act of violence must not derail Manipur’s path toward peace and normalcy. The safety of every citizen is paramount, he asserted, promising that the rule of law would prevail, justice would be served, and peace would be upheld.
According to police officials, two people, including a woman, were killed in an attack at Tolon Kuki village under the Kamai police station in Tamenglong district. Similarly, two others, also including a woman, were shot dead in Longpi village under the Nungba police station in Noney district. Following these incidents, security forces launched a large-scale search operation to locate the assailants. All four victims were reported to be members of the Kuki tribal community.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh condemned the murders on Sunday, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives. In an official statement, he declared that such cowardly acts of violence against innocent citizens are intolerable and have no place in society.
Various organizations, including legislators and leaders from the Kuki and Naga communities, condemned the Tolon attack, labeling it a deliberate and malicious attempt to create unrest and division among communities.
In a related incident, reports indicate that three to four houses belonging to the Rongmei Naga community were set ablaze late Sunday evening in Khedaghar, under the Jiribam police station. This incident occurred approximately 12 kilometers south of the police station. So far, there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities. Sources suggest that, fearing retaliation amidst escalating tensions between the Kuki and Naga communities, Rongmei Naga families had vacated their homes weeks prior.
In response to these events, security personnel have been deployed to assess the situation and bolster security measures in the affected areas. Forces are on high alert, with soldiers and quick action teams prepared for immediate deployment. Security officials have also been instructed to enhance dialogue with local residents and key figures to maintain vigilance and prevent further escalation of tensions.
