Jiribam, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : Tensions flared in Jiribam, Manipur, when three to four homes belonging to the Rongmei Naga community were set on fire. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or fatalities.
The incident occurred around 6:30 PM on Sunday, approximately 12 kilometers south of the Jiribam police station. The exact cause of the fire and those responsible remain officially unconfirmed.
Sources indicate that Rongmei Naga families had vacated their homes weeks earlier due to escalating tensions between the Kuki and Naga communities, fearing potential retaliation.
In response to the incident, security personnel assessed the situation. Forces have been placed on high alert, with troops and quick action teams prepared for immediate deployment. Security officials have also been instructed to engage with local villagers and community leaders to maintain vigilance and prevent further escalation.
Earlier in the week, in Tamenglong district, an unknown assailant opened fire on a family in Tolon village, located on National Highway-37. Initial reports indicate that the attack occurred around 4 AM, resulting in the death of a woman and injuries to her husband and six-year-old son, while two other children were unharmed.
Tensions in the region continue to be a concern as authorities work to ensure safety and stability.
