Imphal, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : Manipur’s Chief Minister, Yumnam Khemchand Singh, urged the state’s citizens to contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047. Speaking at the Seva Sankalp Campaign held at the Yaorong Sabal Community Hall in Imphal on October 6, he emphasized that peace, mutual trust, and collective efforts are essential for the state’s active participation in the country’s development.
Khemchand Singh highlighted Modi’s 25 years of public service, noting the significant progress India has made during this time. He pointed out that before Modi became Prime Minister, India ranked 11th among the world’s largest economies, and now it has risen to the fourth position. This achievement, he noted, is particularly significant for the northeastern region.
The Chief Minister addressed the challenges faced by Manipur following the ethnic violence that erupted on May 3, 2023. He stated that both the public and the government have suffered considerable losses, with the violence severely impacting the state’s GST revenue, leading to a decline of over ₹1,200 crores.
Khemchand Singh also discussed the hardships faced by daily wage workers and other segments of society due to strikes and blockades. He warned that a single day of protest could result in an economic loss of ₹20-25 crores, disproportionately affecting ordinary citizens and laborers.
He appealed to the public and civil society organizations to refrain from resorting to strikes, emphasizing that such disruptions severely impact livelihoods and the overall economy of the state.
On the vision for Developed India by 2047, the Chief Minister reiterated Modi’s goal of transforming India into a developed nation by the centenary of its independence. He stressed the importance of Manipur’s contribution to this national development journey and the need for peace to overcome the lack of trust among various communities.
Khemchand Singh called for increased mutual understanding, trust, and cooperation among communities to advance the state on its path to development. He advised government officials present at the event to take all necessary measures within their responsibilities to ensure that government schemes and services effectively reach the intended beneficiaries.
During the program, over 30 service stalls and counters were set up by various government departments, providing citizens access to government services, information, and welfare schemes. The event was attended by local representatives, senior government officials, and a large number of residents from the Patsoi Assembly constituency.
