Managing Heavy Menstrual Bleeding: Ayurvedic Remedies and Prevention Tips

New Delhi, March 25: Heavy or irregular bleeding during menstruation is known as menorrhagia. Understanding this condition is crucial as it relates not only to physical weakness but also to lifestyle and dietary habits. Controlling menorrhagia or abnormal bleeding is not overly difficult. A proper diet, hygiene, light exercise, and Ayurvedic home remedies can significantly help manage this issue.

Ayurveda offers several effective home remedies for controlling heavy menstrual bleeding. For instance, consuming warm amla juice mixed with jaggery twice a day can help balance bleeding. Similarly, eating a paste of raw bananas with jaggery or taking licorice powder with rice water can also be beneficial. Some individuals boil the bark of the Ashoka tree and mix it with milk, which helps regulate menstrual cycles and control blood flow. These remedies should be followed consistently for about one to two weeks or until symptoms improve.

Additionally, paying attention to diet and lifestyle is essential. Consuming warm and nutritious foods, a light yet balanced diet, and plenty of green vegetables, fruits, milk, and ghee is advantageous. Maintaining cleanliness during menstruation is crucial; ensure clothing and sanitary pads are clean and use only safe drinking water. Light exercise and household chores keep the body active and reduce fatigue during menstruation.

Avoid anger, stress, disputes, or excessive physical labor during your period. Instead of immediately taking medication for mild cramps or body aches, try home remedies like mixing cumin powder with warm milk or applying a hot water bag to the affected area. Steer clear of overly spicy, oily, heavy, sour, or salty foods.
