Kolkata, May 5: The results of the West Bengal Assembly elections, announced on Monday, revealed a significant upset. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to form a government with a substantial majority, while TMC leader Mamata Banerjee suffered a crushing defeat in Bhawanipur.
Among the many seats contested, Panihati attracted the most attention. Located in the North 24 Parganas district, Panihati is a vital urban constituency that falls under the Dum Dum Lok Sabha seat. Traditionally, it has been a stronghold of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), with Nirmal Ghosh winning in both 2016 and 2021.
