
Silchar, April 6: The Rangirkhari police in Assam’s Silchar successfully executed a significant operation on Monday, resulting in the arrest of five notorious thieves and the recovery of stolen goods worth millions.
Acting on a tip-off, a special police team was formed under the leadership of the officer in charge of the Rangirkhari police station. The team conducted raids at multiple locations throughout the city. During this operation, the five thieves were apprehended, and a substantial amount of stolen property was recovered.
Among the items seized by the police were 47 mobile phones, 4 laptops, 1 tablet, ₹73,000 in cash, 9 wristwatches, a pair of gold earrings, and 3 rings, among other valuables. The arrested individuals have been identified as Abdul Basit Chowdhury, Jaydeep Das, Pradeep Das, Arif Uddin Laskar, and Rahul Sarkar, all residents of Silchar.
Police officials stated that further investigations are underway to determine if additional individuals are involved in this theft ring. They also assured the public that operations aimed at preventing theft will continue in the coming days.
In a related incident, another case emerged on the same day from the Shakarpur area of Delhi, where police arrested a notorious criminal involved in multiple snatching, robbery, and theft cases. The Delhi police recovered five mobile phones from the suspect’s possession.
The arrested individual has been identified as Intzar, also known as Imtiaz (30), a resident of Trilokpuri in East Delhi. Investigations revealed that he has previously been involved in 24 criminal cases, including snatching, robbery, theft, the Arms Act, and other serious offenses.
