Major Drug Bust in Manipur: 4.267 Kilograms of Heroin Seized, Two Arrested

Imphal, April 29: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), in collaboration with the Assam Rifles and state police, has arrested two drug traffickers in Manipur and seized 4.267 kilograms of heroin valued at approximately ₹8.5 crore.

Officials reported that this operation also dismantled a smuggling network linked to Myanmar.

During the joint operation conducted on Tuesday, the heroin was concealed in 374 soap boxes, with an estimated international market value of ₹8.5 crore.

An official described this operation as a significant success against cross-border drug trafficking. The NCB’s Imphal zonal unit, along with the Assam Rifles and Manipur police, executed a raid in a remote area near KhuaKhuai in Churachandpur district, which borders Myanmar.

During the operation, security forces intercepted a Gypsy vehicle and a Kenbo motorcycle. Upon searching, they discovered the heroin and arrested two individuals involved in the trafficking on the spot.

Authorities also recovered two wireless communication devices from the suspects, which were used to coordinate drug transportation.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the heroin was smuggled from Myanmar.

An official stated that this seizure highlights the serious challenge of drug trafficking along the India-Myanmar border, where international gangs continuously exploit this route.

The Narcotics Control Bureau is intensifying its efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and disrupt supply chains in the northeastern region, particularly near the India-Myanmar border.

This operation marks yet another achievement in a series of successful missions by the agency in Manipur, reflecting its ongoing commitment to combat drug trafficking.

According to officials, drugs worth ₹335 crore were seized in Manipur in 2025, while ₹75 crore worth of narcotics have been confiscated so far in 2026.

Further investigations are underway to identify and apprehend other members of the network, as well as to trace additional connections.
