Mumbai, April 2: In a significant operation against drug trafficking, the Anti-Narcotic Task Force and Singhodar police in Chhattisgarh’s Mahasamund district seized a massive haul of opium poppy weighing 1432 kilograms. Two traffickers from Haryana were arrested during this crackdown.

According to a press release from the Superintendent of Police’s office, the team received intelligence about a pickup truck transporting opium poppy from Odisha to Chhattisgarh. Acting on this tip-off, police set up a blockade near Rehatikhole on NH-53 to inspect suspicious vehicles. They stopped a pickup truck with the registration number HR46F4848, occupied by two individuals. During questioning, the driver identified himself as Harvinder Singh, while his companion was Satyawan Valmiki, both residents of Karnal district in Haryana. When asked about the bags in the back of the vehicle, the suspects admitted they were carrying opium poppy, which they intended to transport from Gumla in Jharkhand to Raipur.

Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered a total of 1432 kilograms of opium poppy. The estimated value of the seized narcotics is approximately ₹2 crore 14 lakh 80 thousand. Additionally, the pickup truck, valued at around ₹10 lakh, and two mobile phones worth ₹20 thousand were confiscated. The total estimated value of the seized assets amounts to about ₹2 crore 25 lakh. Police have registered a case against the accused under Section 18 (b) of the NDPS Act and have formally arrested them. Both suspects have been remanded to judicial custody as the investigation continues.

Police officials stated that the Anti-Narcotic Task Force has been directed to enhance efforts in curbing drug trafficking, identifying sources and destinations, and strengthening financial investigations. As part of this initiative, ongoing checking operations in the district have led to this significant success.
