Major Drug Bust in Anantnag: Five Traffickers Arrested with Substantial Narcotics Seized

Srinagar, April 10: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, police in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir have arrested five individuals. A large quantity of narcotics was also confiscated during the operation.

According to police reports, the Anantnag police launched a comprehensive anti-drug campaign across the district. This initiative led to the apprehension of five traffickers at various locations. Officials stated that the primary aim of this campaign is to combat the rising drug trade in the region.

Acting on specific intelligence, police obtained a search warrant from the court and raided the residence of Fayaz Ahmad Dar in the Naina Gund Baba Khalil area. During the search, authorities discovered 3 kilograms and 99 grams of a substance resembling charas.

Following this seizure, police arrested Fayaz Ahmad Dar and his son, Arbaaz Ahmad Dar, on-site. Both individuals have been charged, and further investigations are underway.

The police confirmed that an FIR has been registered under the NDPS Act at the Bijbehara police station. A thorough investigation is ongoing to identify other individuals involved in this trafficking network.

In another operation under the same campaign, a team from the Sangam police station stopped a vehicle during a checkpoint in New Basti Marhama. Acting on suspicion, they searched the car and initiated further action. Investigations are still in progress, with police actively searching for other suspects.

In a separate incident, police in Anantnag arrested two individuals for drug trafficking, seizing 488 grams of a substance resembling charas from their possession. The arrested individuals, Shahzada Suwaid and Waris-ul-Islam, were charged under the NDPS Act, and investigations continue.

Additionally, a team from the Anantnag police station apprehended another suspect during a checkpoint near the Overhead Danter Bridge on the Anantnag bypass. Sajjad Ahmad Shah, a resident of Hakura Badazgam, was found in possession of seven sticks weighing 106 grams and 88 grams of powder, believed to be charas. He was also arrested, and a case has been registered under the NDPS Act.

Authorities stated that there is an ongoing campaign against drug traffickers in Jammu and Kashmir, involving security forces as well. The objective is to curb the sale and trafficking of narcotics.

Officials noted that the funds generated from these illegal activities are often funneled through hawala networks. Such funds can potentially be used to promote activities related to terrorism in the region, prompting police to take strict action against these cases.
