Major Crackdown on Illegal Cannabis Cultivation in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh

The Narcotics Control Bureau has destroyed over 61 acres of illegal cannabis crops in Kullu, part of a larger anti-drug initiative.

Kullu, September 27 (Daily Kiran) : The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has launched a significant operation against illegal cannabis cultivation in Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, destroying over 61 acres of crops. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort in the rugged, high-altitude areas of the region.

The operation is a collaborative effort involving the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Himachal Pradesh police, and the state forest department. Teams are actively working in challenging mountainous terrains to eliminate illegal farming.

To ensure transparency, the entire operation is being documented through geo-tagging, photography, and videography. Authorities have indicated that they will identify those responsible for the illegal cultivation and pursue legal action against them.

According to the NCB, this operation aligns with the central government’s “Vision Document on Narcotics Control (2026-29).” The goal is to achieve a “Drug-Free India.” Under this strategy, both central and state agencies are working together to eradicate illegal cultivation at its source.

Recently, the NCB has intensified its crackdown on drug networks. In a related case, a special NDPS court sentenced nine traffickers to prison terms ranging from 10 to 20 years for their involvement in the smuggling of 441 kilograms of cannabis in Firozabad in 2021. During the investigation, assets worth ₹32.12 lakh belonging to the offenders were also frozen.

The NCB reported that on November 4, 2021, the Shikohabad police station in Firozabad seized the cannabis from a truck, arresting the driver and co-driver on-site with the illegal cargo.
