Major Clash in Jharkhands Saranda Forest: Naxal Leaders Reportedly Killed, Cobra Soldier Injured

Ranchi, April 15: A fierce encounter occurred on Wednesday between security forces and a banned Naxal organization in the Saranda forest area of Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district. The clash involved the notorious Naxal leader Misir Besra, who has a bounty of one crore rupees on his head.

Initial reports indicate that several Naxals may have been killed during the confrontation. A soldier from the Cobra Battalion sustained injuries and is being prepared for airlifting to Ranchi for medical treatment. The gunfire erupted around 10 AM in the dense jungles between the villages of Marang Ponga and Baliba, located within the Chotanagpur police station area.

Police received intelligence that Misir Besra was planning to shift his camp with his squad. Acting on this information, a joint team of the Cobra Battalion, Jharkhand Jaguar, and district police launched an extensive search operation in the region.

As the security personnel began to encircle the Naxals in the interior of the jungle, the Maoists opened fire indiscriminately. In response, the security forces retaliated and gained the upper hand against the Naxals.

Sources suggest that precise firing from the troops resulted in the deaths of four Naxals, with several others likely injured. However, due to the dense forest and challenging terrain, police have not yet recovered the bodies or made any official confirmations.

It is reported that alongside Misir Besra, other notorious Naxals such as Mochu, Sagen Angaria, and Ashwin were also present in the squad. Following the encounter, security forces have intensified their search operations in the area. The injured Cobra soldier is being transferred from Chaibasa to Ranchi for better medical care.
