Major Action Taken Against Etah CDO Over Viral Video Demanding Bribes

Etah, March 10: A significant action has been taken against the Chief Development Officer (CDO) of Etah district in Uttar Pradesh due to allegations of corruption. The CDO has been suspended for demanding money from Anganwadi workers.

A viral video on social media shows CDO Nagendra Narayan Mishra instructing District Coordinator Sanjeev Pachauri to arrange ₹10,000 from each Anganwadi center. In the video, he is heard saying, “I need ₹10,000 from every Anganwadi. You are my man, Pachauri; get the money.”

The District Coordinator reportedly refused to comply with this demand and denied involvement in any financial transactions. Following the video’s emergence, the matter escalated to the state government.

Under the directives of Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, CDO Nagendra Narayan Mishra has been suspended and reassigned to headquarters. Mishra was promoted from the position of Block Development Officer (BDO) to CDO.

It is noteworthy that in 2026, several officials and employees have faced suspension, dismissal, or arrest. Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s orders, ongoing actions by the Lokayukta, Vigilance, and Anti-Corruption teams have led to numerous suspensions in departments such as PWD, Revenue, Education, and Health. Junior engineers, clerks, and pharmacists have been caught taking bribes in districts like Baghpat, Firozabad, and Prayagraj.

Joint Director Sheshnath Pandey was dismissed from service after being found guilty of administrative and financial irregularities. Additionally, ten officials, including Deputy Director Sunita Verma from the Fisheries Department (Kanpur Division), have been reassigned due to allegations of corruption and negligence. Following the circulation of bribery videos, eleven police personnel have also been suspended.
