Mumbai, August 6: Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil launched a strong attack on the Maharashtra government on Thursday. He accused the administration, particularly Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, of orchestrating a deliberate conspiracy against the Maratha community.
Jarange Patil’s remarks followed the cancellation of Kunbi caste certificates for four female Maratha representatives from the Marathwada region by the caste verification committee.
During a press conference, Jarange Patil alleged that the government intentionally issued certificates only to later revoke them. He claimed this was a calculated scheme to politically isolate him and betray the community that helped bring them to power.
He stated that a significant, well-planned conspiracy was being hatched from within the Maharashtra government.
Jarange Patil warned that the government, elected by the Marathas, is betraying them. “We will take the biggest revenge in 2029,” he declared.
Presenting documents to media representatives, he cited specific cases, claiming that Jyoti Shinde’s certificate was revoked due to political malice and widespread misunderstanding.
He alleged that Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule personally ordered the cancellation of certificates after losing the elections. He questioned why valid certificates were being labeled as fraudulent, asserting that no government official possesses as much evidence as they do.
In response to these allegations, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis denied any political or administrative interference and clarified that the caste verification committee operates as an autonomous body under the Supreme Court’s directives.
Fadnavis told reporters, “I have not heard all of Manoj Jarange Patil’s comments, but I want to make it clear that when certificates go to the caste verification committee, they operate under the rules set by the Supreme Court.” He further stated, “The state government does not interfere in its functioning.”
While Fadnavis did not provide the exact number of canceled Kunbi certificates, he mentioned that the committee regularly rejects 10 to 12 percent of certificates across various categories, which can sometimes rise to 10 to 25 percent for non-Kunbi OBC certificates. He emphasized that no certificate is deliberately rejected.
