Mumbai, May 7: Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde experienced a helicopter diversion on Thursday. Fortunately, the pilot acted swiftly, redirecting the aircraft to the Juhu-based Pawan Hans helipad, where a safe landing was executed. No injuries were reported, and all passengers, including Deputy Chief Minister Shinde, are unharmed. This incident occurred in the rural areas of Thane.
Deputy Chief Minister Shinde was en route to Murbad to attend a family wedding of his party officials. The helicopter took off from the Mahalaxmi Race Course helipad at 3:30 PM. However, upon reaching Airoli, the pilot spotted an approaching storm.
Recognizing the potential danger, the pilot promptly informed Deputy Chief Minister Shinde. Instead of proceeding, he suggested turning back. The pilot then made the decision to return, successfully landing the helicopter at the Juhu Pawan Hans helipad within minutes.
Onboard were Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, his personal assistant Prabhakar Kale, special duty officer Bal Singh Rajput, special duty officer Vinayak Patrudkar from the Public Relations Department, a security guard, and an airline representative. After the successful landing, all passengers departed for Shinde’s residence.
This incident follows the tragic plane crash on January 28, which claimed the life of Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed that all six passengers, including Ajit Pawar, perished in the accident.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was traveling from Mumbai to Baramati to attend a public meeting amid ongoing elections for district councils and panchayat committees. His aircraft crashed during landing near Baramati around 9 AM, losing control and catching fire. No survivors were reported from the crash.
