Mumbai, September 3: Amid ongoing speculation about his potential move to national politics, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has firmly put these rumors to rest. He stated on Thursday that he will continue to serve the state at least until 2029.
Speaking at an infrastructure conclave hosted by a Marathi TV channel, Fadnavis addressed the persistent reports regarding his possible relocation to the national capital. He emphasized that his future role lies in the hands of the party leaders.
“My party and my leaders will determine my role. The day they decide, I will certainly go to Delhi. As of now, I believe I am not going to Delhi until 2029,” he remarked.
Rejecting the continuous media discussions, he humorously noted, “Some of my well-wishers think that going to Delhi would be a promotion for me, while others believe that if I leave, it would lift a burden off their shoulders. Whether people want it or not, my leaders will keep me in Maharashtra until 2029. Every two to three months, when someone has no news or wants to spark a discussion, they send me to Delhi. Honestly, I enjoy it.”
His comments came after a surprising claim made by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut earlier that day. Raut alleged that despite Fadnavis denying any intentions of entering national politics, the Prime Minister wishes to summon him to New Delhi for a significant role.
Speaking to the media, Raut claimed that discussions are ongoing within the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) about promoting Fadnavis. He stated that the Prime Minister wants to bring CM Fadnavis to Delhi and assign him an important responsibility. “I know this for sure,” he added.
Raut further claimed that the RSS desires a prominent leader to be appointed as Deputy Prime Minister, someone who is not currently part of the central cabinet. The RSS believes that the individual who will succeed PM Modi in the cabinet should be brought into the Deputy Prime Minister role, and as far as I know, that person is not in Delhi yet.
Meanwhile, CM Fadnavis also presented a vision for Maharashtra’s economic future. He emphasized that the state is very close to achieving its goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy. Currently, Maharashtra’s growth rate stands at 8.8%, which is commendable, but it needs to surpass the 10% mark to reach its target within this decade.
Fadnavis stated, “Many states dream of becoming a $1 trillion economy, but Maharashtra is the closest to achieving it, as we have already reached $660 billion. If we maintain our growth rate, we will certainly become a $1 trillion economy by 2030.”
