Bhopal, April 8: The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, held a virtual discussion with representatives from farmer organizations and NGOs. The meeting aimed to prepare for the wheat procurement process starting on April 9. During the discussion, the CM assured that a robust system would be in place for wheat procurement and announced the establishment of a control room at the Chief Minister’s residence to monitor the entire process.
CM Yadav emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring fair prices for farmers’ produce. He revealed that help desks would be set up at procurement centers, and control rooms would be established at the district level. The control room at the Chief Minister’s office will oversee the entire operation. He also appealed for support from NGOs in the wheat procurement process. All collectors and SDMs have been instructed to enhance arrangements for farmers at the centers. Information about the procurement process will be disseminated through pamphlets and hoardings at these centers.
Wheat procurement in the state will commence on Thursday. The government has announced that the produce of small and marginal farmers will be purchased first, followed by that of larger farmers. This year, the support price for wheat has been set at ₹2,585 per quintal.
Additionally, the state government has declared a bonus of ₹40 per quintal, bringing the total procurement price to ₹2,625 per quintal. The dates for wheat procurement have been changed multiple times, drawing criticism from the Congress party. This situation arose due to damage to crops in some areas caused by rain and hail.
