Bhopal, May 20: The Madhya Pradesh government has extended the deadline for wheat purchases. Farmers who book slots by May 23 will now have their wheat bought until May 28. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced this decision on Wednesday, emphasizing the government’s commitment to farmers’ welfare.
During a media interaction, CM Yadav noted that many farmers faced long queues and other challenges at purchase centers despite having booked slots. This prompted the government to make the extension.
He stated, “Any farmer who has successfully booked a slot will have their wheat purchased without fail. Therefore, the deadline is extended from May 23 to May 28.”
The Chief Minister also mentioned that the state government has declared this year as the ‘Farmer Welfare Year.’ In line with this initiative, the state aims to achieve a record purchase of 10 million metric tons of wheat this season, compared to last year’s 7.7 million metric tons.
So far, the state has purchased 9.1 million metric tons of wheat, indicating that Madhya Pradesh is on track to break its own record. Mohan Yadav claimed that Madhya Pradesh is now the leading state in the country for wheat purchases from farmers.
The Chief Minister assured that his government is consistently making decisions in favor of farmers and standing by them in all circumstances. He acknowledged the various challenges this year, including global conditions, storage issues, availability of gunny bags, adverse weather, and transportation. However, the government has managed the situation by increasing storage capacity.
CM Yadav urged farmers not to worry, stating that the slot booking system is being operated smoothly to avoid any issues in the purchasing process.
Currently, the state government is buying wheat at a rate of ₹2,625 per quintal at purchase centers. The Chief Minister affirmed that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the government is continuously working for the welfare of farmers, the poor, women, and youth.
