Bhopal, May 9: The Madhya Pradesh government announced on Saturday that the procurement of wheat at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) will continue from May 9 to May 23. This decision aims to benefit farmers and ensure a smooth purchase of all produce reaching the procurement centers.
Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection Minister Govind Singh Rajput stated in an official announcement that so far, 60.7 lakh metric tons of wheat have been procured from 9.78 lakh farmers across the state.
The procurement process operates six days a week, from Monday to Saturday. On May 9 alone, 2.79 lakh metric tons of wheat were purchased from 31,629 farmers at various procurement centers in Madhya Pradesh.
To reduce waiting times for farmers, the government has extended the timing for issuing weight slips from 6 PM to 10 PM. The deadline for issuing payment vouchers has also been extended to midnight.
Additionally, the number of scales at procurement centers has been increased from four to six. District administrations have been granted the authority to increase the number of scales based on the crowd of farmers.
Rajput mentioned that due to the increased online workload during the procurement season, the capacity and number of servers at the National Informatics Centre have also been enhanced. The food department is monitoring procurement activities every hour to ensure smooth operations and timely problem resolution.
The minister confirmed that a total of ₹11,610 crores has already been paid directly into farmers’ bank accounts. Farmers are receiving ₹2,625 per quintal for wheat purchased under the MSP scheme, which includes the central government’s fixed MSP of ₹2,585 per quintal and an additional ₹40 bonus provided by the state government.
